OBJECTIVES:
- Increase resilience and liquidity for farmers and farmer organizations in the face of climate-related shocks.
- Facilitate integration of insurance with WFP’s interventions with the Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) Programmes and Smallholder Agricultural Market Support (SAMS).
- Promote collaboration among stakeholders to scale insurance solutions and embed them into broader disaster risk financing frameworks.

INNOVATIVE FEATURES:
- Crop-agnostic design protecting multiple key value chains (e.g.,rice, maize, beans, cassava).
- Meso-level insurance model with WFP as policyholder.
- Complements WFP’s Replica Policy and the Contingency Fund.
- Scalable to enable easy rollout across regions and programmes.
- Reinforces local financial resilience through farmers-based organisations and Village Savings & Loans Associations (VSLA).

KEY OUTCOMES:
- 2024-2025:
- Developed and launched a weather index insurance Minimum Viable Product at the district level for expanded coverage and improved cost-efficiency.
- Pilot reached approximately 8,264 producers across multiple regions.
2025- 2026 Targets:
Cover additional producers and regions.
Improve the granularity of cover to the commune level.
Continuously refine effectiveness of the product.
